The RMAF organizationally structured to create an integrated and cohesive command structure and geared towards effective combat capabilities.

Its structure is based on the concept of central planning and control and decentralised execution. This structure enables RMAF units and squadrons to act as independent entities and autonomous with built - in logistic elements in providing front-line support for daily operations.

 
RMAF HEADQUARTERS


The RMAF HQ is the apex of the organizational network centered in the Ministry of Defence, Kuala Lumpur.

It is divided into two organizational sub -  systems, the Department of Plans and Development and  the Department of Operations.

The Department of Plans and Development is responsible for the promulgation of policies, plans and the future development of all the specialist branches in the RMAF.

The Department of Operations is responsible for the formulation of doctrines, contingency plans exercises, running of the bases and employment of current RMAF assets.
The command function is vested upon the Chief of the Air Force and assisted by his Deputy.
 

AIR DIVISION


There are four Air Divisions in the RMAF which in responsible for the training and readiness of specified forces under command.

No 1 Air Division is responsible for the readiness and preparedness of all combat and air defence assets.

No. 2 Division is responsible for the readiness and preparedness of air mobility resources and it has operational control of transport and helicopter fleet in the RMAF.

No. 3 Air Division is responsible for aviation and logistics support for the RMAF including the maintenance of system, supply and distribution of material.

No. 4 Air Division acts as a forward Air Headquarters for specific operations by using assigned forces. It is also responsible to monitor the air picture of Sabah and Sarawak.
